The last date of income tax return filing for Assessment Year 2022-23 is now available on the government's e-filing portal. As per Income Tax Act regulations, the last date to file ITR (excluding those facing tax audits) for A.Y. 2022/23 (also identified as Financial Year 2021/22) is July 31, 2022. The return filing date for other taxpayers whose accounts are subjected to audit by which the returns can be filed out without bearing a late fee or penalty is the 31st of October, 2022. Income tax return filing for 2022/23

 

The Department of Income Tax has announced 6 types of forms for taxpayers. The relevancy of these ITR forms differs based on earned income, source of the income of the tax-payer, and category of income. We have mentioned all 6 income tax filing forms below. 

 

ITR-1/Sahaj - This form is for those who do not have any other income source and their income is not more than Rs. 50 lakhs. 

 

ITR-2 - This form is for those individuals who have income sources of more than one except business. And the income is also exceeding Rs. 50 lakh.

 

ITR-3 - The ITR-3 form is for those individuals whose source of income is business.

 

ITR-4 - This form is for businesses that can provide a presumptive figure of yearly net turnover and annual income.

 

ITR-5 - As per the reference in section 2(31)(vii), this form is for the person who belongs to a firm, AOP, BOI, LLP, artificial juridical person, business trust, and investment fund, or local authority. 

 

ITR-6 - This form is for those companies who are registered under section 11.

Required documents for filing ITR

Form 16 - Form-16 is used as proof of filing income tax returns by the employer to the government. The form-16 is an income tax form for companies, firms, and unorganized corporations to give their employees details about the deducted tax. This form contains all the details like net salary, HRA and LTA exemptions, gross taxable salary, tax-saving deductions, salary TDS, and any loss that happened with the employee.

 

Aadhaar Card- As per section 139AA, providing the details of the Aadhaar Card is necessary while filling out an ITR form.

 

Salary Slips - A salary slip is a must document for salaried individuals taxpayers for filing ITR. A salary slip contains details such as dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA), and traveling allowance (TA).
